Government proposes ban on swimming with wild Hawaiian spinner dolphins

The federal government is looking into a proposed ban of swimming with wild spinner dolphins in Hawaiian waters out to two miles from shore. The National Marine Fisheries Service believes that the health of the predictable spinner dolphins, who are nocturnal, is being jeopardized by so many tourists seeking them out by boat during the day.

The two-mile from shore ban covers an area where the dolphins spend 98 percent of their time resting during the day. The predictable nature of these dolphins make them very easy for tour operators to find them day after day.
