Olympus Announces PT-E01 Underwater Housing for the E-300

Olympus has announced a polycarbonate housing for their Evolt E-300 digital SLR camera called the PT-E01.  The housing is rated to 60 meters and accepts interchangable ports.  The release date is targetted for June.  The unit comes wired with a proprietary bulkhead, but it’s probably simple to change out with a third party N5 bulkhead, allowing the use of most underwater strobes.

Kongsberg Digital Camera Housing - 250m Depth Rating

The maritime company Kongsberg Simrad is now offering a digital still camera housing for deep diving work.  This 5-megapixel housed camera system is rated for 250 meters. According to the manufacturer: “The oe14-308 is a digital still colour camera ruggedly designed for use by the commercial diver.  When used with the dedicated flashgun (oe11-342) flash synchronisation is achieved via an optical link.”  We’re not sure which camera the housing is designed for, but since it uses a 1/1.8 inch CCD and 38 - 114mm lens we can probably guess.

For the last five years I’ve been traveling to Hornby Island, BC to dive and play with the Stellar sea lions that migrate there during the winter months to wait to feed on the annual herring spawn. They are an incredibly friendly bunch who are accustomed to divers visiting and interacting with them.
