Call for Entries: Sea of Japan Photo Contest

Wetpixel’s friends at Inon have let us know that the Japanese Government Tourism Bureau is hosting the Sea of Japan underwater photo contest. Open to images that could only have been shot in Japan; “from photos of species endemic to Japan to the unique views and one-of-a-kind colors that can be found in Japanese waters!” The contest is open now, and the deadline for entries is 15 November.

Scuba Diving magazine has announced the 2017 photo contest winners

Scuba Diving magazine has announced the winners to their 13th annual Through the Lens underwater photography contest. There were over 2,500 entries from all over the world in the categories of Wide-Angle, Macro, Conceptual, and Compact Camera, as well as one grand prize winner. The winner of the competition was Greg LeCoeur with an image of two gannets diving for fish off Scotland.

Call for entries: 2017 Raja Ampat Underwater Photo Contest

The 2017 Raja Ampat Underwater Photo Contest is calling for entries. The wide angle category is free for up to 5 entries, which must have been taken in the Raja Ampat region between August 2016 and August 2017. The contest has also added a new macro category that is only open to individuals who have booked onto several mandatory trips with the contest’s sponsor. The deadline for entries is 31 August 2017.

University of Miami now accepting entries for 2017 UW Photo contest

The University of Miami (UM) Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science is now accepting entries for its annual Underwater Photography Contest. The Underwater Photography Contest is open to all amateur photographers who earn no more than 20 percent of their income from photography. The top prize is a trip on Blackbeard’s Cruises, departing from Freeport, Bahamas. The deadline for submitting photos is 12p.m., U.S. Eastern Time on Monday, April 3, 2017.

The Japanese museum, Okhotsk Sea Museum, that put on a photo contest and chose a man standing on a dead whale as its winning image has issued an apology. The apology comes after the public reacted with strong negativity to the museum’s choice. In addition to an apology, the prize has been revoked and this year’s contest is cancelled.

Indonesia World Underwater Photo contest is open Photo

Indonesia World Underwater Photo contest is open

The Indonesia World Underwater Photo contest is now accepting entries. The competition, organized by the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, actually started to accept entries on 1 January, and will remain open until 30 November 2013. Images are being accepted in 7 categories, with prizes for each as well as a prize for Best in Show. Images must have been taken in Indonesia, and all entrants submitted are required to have taken the images whilst diving with a participating dive operator (PDO) and be accompanied by the local dive leader provided by them. Entries are free but must be submitted via the PDO.

Full rules and procedures are on the Indonesia Underwater Photo contest website. Given that the prize fund is $200,000, this is another good reason to come to Indonesia as a part of the Wetpixel Lembeh macro workshop.
