Video: NASA Neutral Buoyancy Lab by Peter Lightowler

NASA’s Neutral Buoyancy Lab (NBL) in Houston, Texas is a large freshwater pool that is used to train astronauts to perform tasks in a weightless, or in this case, neutral buoyancy environment. Gates and RED recently ran a 3-day STO course, training the NBL team in using their housings and cameras to document the training. Peter Lightowler of Down Under Aquatic Imaging also provided an introduction to video editing using Davinci Resolve. In addition, he produced this amazing short film.

NASA Astronauts head underwater for their NEEMO 21 training

Yesterday was splashdown for the NASA astronauts in their yearly underwater training off Florida. This year’s mission is the 21st NEEMO mission and will take place in the Aquarius Undersea Reef Base where the crew will live 62 feet underwater for 16 days in simulated space craft conditions.
