Paper Catalogs Effects of Ocean Warming on Tiger Sharks

A new open-access paper has shown that tiger sharks’ (Galeocerdo cuvier) migratory patterns are being affected by rising ocean temperatures. The study was carried out by the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine & Atmospheric Science and uses a variety of satellite tracking and tag recapture techniques to show that the animals have shifted their migration 250 miles (400 km) polewards.

Drought affects Jellyfish Lake

Due to a severe drought affecting the nation, Palau’s famous Jellyfish Lake has been removed from the itineraries of most of the operators in the region. Estimates are that the population of jellyfish in the lake have dropped from around 8 million to under 600,000.
