A new iOS and Android app adds new functionality to the book “Marine Life of the North Atlantic Cape May to Canada.” It has identification for over 300 species and additional dive logging, notifications of species sightings and community sharing.
DPReview has reported that an app has been developed that will allow the use of legacy Mac apps like Aperture and iPhoto within the 64-bit environment on Apple’s latest OS. Called Retroactive, it can be downloaded from GitHub, and full installation instructions are also available.

A new app, WiFox created by travel blogger Anil Polat provides a crowd sourced list of free wifi networks in airports worldwide to assist with this.
Hedge for Mac is a new app that is designed to import data from still or video cameras. It can import multiple streams simultaneously and automatically verifies copies to ensure that they are all bit for bit perfect. It is available as a free version that limits the user to two simultaneous streams or a subscription based version that gives an unlimited number of streams.
The Bermuda Zoological Society and the Atlantic Conservation Partnership have released version 2 of their Bermuda Reef Life App. It now contains 260 images of 136 species of the area’s marine life, and has updated several taxonomic changes.
The three-volume textbook cataloging every known fish species in the coral triangle will be available as three interlinking Pad (imminent) or Kindle Fire (from 10 October) Apps. The Apps load onto the device, meaning that they can be used in areas where there is limited internet connectivity, and will be updated as new discoveries are made.
