Blackmagic Design unveils its Pocket Cinema Camera

Blackmagic Design has unveiled its Pocket Cinema Camera at NAB today. This features a Super 16mm sized sensor with a 1080 HD output, 13 stop exposure latitude, recording direct to an SD card in ProRes 422 or lossless 12 Bit Log RAW CinemaDNG formats and takes standard Micro 4/3s lenses. Its size and weight are similar to that of a compact camera and the camera’s specifications include remote control via LANC, so there may well be an easy way to incorporate controls into an underwater housing.

Aditech updates its Sony housings

Aditech has released a new version of their Mangrove MVHS-L and MVHS-XL housings. This provides support for Sony camcorders that are equipped with the new Sony Multi connector. As with previous models, the rear of the housing is made of Delrin, and it features a control system using LANC control that gives access to all camcorder functions via 12 electromagnetic pushbuttons.

Canon announces two new pro camcorders

Canon has announced the release of two new pro camcorders. The XA25 and XA20 are designed to be ultra compact and offer the ability to record two different formats simultaneously onto two SD cards. The cameras have a wide-angle zoom lens with a close focus of 60cm (24”), a 2.91-megapixel 1/2.84-inch HD CMOS image sensor and DIGIC DV 4 image processor. The XA25 has a BNC fitting that outputs HD/SDI, and both cameras feature dual-band wireless support.

First images: Nauticam housing for the Panasonic GH3

As reported in the Wetpixel forum, images of Nauticam’s housing for the Panasonic DMC-GH3 camera have been added to the Nauticam China website. Details of the housing are still to be released, but it seems that the exposure compensation, ISO and white balance controls are all located close to the shutter release, with the buttons at different heights to allow for tactile feedback. A back plate will be available for use with Nauticam’s magnifying viewfinders if required. Prices and release dates are to be confirmed.

Google offers Nik Collection

Google has announced its plans for the distribution of Nik Photoshop, Lightroom and Aperture plugins. The company acquired Nik software in September 2012, and was widely criticized for removing the Snapseed desktop app. Perhaps in response to this, Google has announced today that it will sell the Nik Collection by Google for an international price of $149. There is also a free 15 day trial of the suite available and if a user has purchased one or more Nik plugins in the past five years, he or she will be upgraded to the full suite free of charge.

Canon releases two new SLR cameras

Canon has announced the release of two new SLR cameras. The EOS 700D or Rebel T5i has an 18 megapixel APS-C sensor with a native ISO range of 100-12800. It also features Canon’s Hybrid AF system and DIGIC 5 image processor. It will be available from April at a US retail price of $749.00.

The EOS 100D or Rebel SL1 is designed to have a very small form factor, comparable to that of mirrorless cameras. It would seem to have the same sensor, processor and AF performance as that of the EOS 700D and will also be available in April, priced at $649.00 in the USA.

Nikon announces the COOLPIX A

Nikon has announced the release of a new compact camera with a 16.2 million pixel DX format CMOS sensor. The COOLPIX A has an EXPEED 2 image processing engine and a native ISO range of 100 to 3200. It is equipped with an 18.5mm f2.8 lens, and its control layout is designed to mimic that of an SLR, making it suitable for use as a back-up camera for an SLR shooter.

Aquatica announces the AD4 housing Photo

Aquatica announces the AD4 housing

Aquatica has released the specifications and renderings of their new housing for the Nikon D4 SLR. The new housing, which will be known as the AD4, will have access to both the Fn and Pv buttons that are situated on the front of the camera body, a new smoother operating lens gear, a new camera tray that indexes with a push-tab and a left-hand lever that adjusts the camera’s ISO.

Shipping dates for the AD4 are still to be confirmed, and it will have a US retail price of $4,590.
