RIP Dan Auber

Professional and underwater photographer Dan Auber died recently. His friend Dan Walsh penned these eloquent words in celebration of his life:

I just heard from Joni Auber, Dan’s wife. Sadly, Dan passed away on Thursday 1 March at his Oceanside home, Joni was with him.

Like so many of you that knew him, Dan and I go back to the 70’s in the dive biz, at San Diego Divers’ Supply, to the present when he had focused (no pun intended) on a career in the world of nature, commercial/industrial, and landscapes among other photo subjects. He and Joni made many photo trips all over the west with cameras documenting their many trips.

I had breakfast with him a few days ago, and he was very excited about all the revisions and landscaping that was being done at their Oceanside home.

Joni asked me to get the word out to all of you that interact with him on Facebook and beyond. If you would, please pass along to other mutual friends about his passing.

At this time, Joni has no plans for any service or memorial, except that Dan will be cremated. Please email me if you want further information.

We had so many funny moments throughout our careers in the dive biz, and Bret, this one’s for you – when we were all on the dive biz fam trip on the Ocean Spirit, as you know, we had one hell of a great time. At breakfast last week, we both laughed our asses off at the antics and great time we had that week.

Dan was a true pro and one of my closest friends, he truly will be missed by everyone that knew him.
