Wetpixel/Gates/RED Tiger Beach Expedition

As if diving, photographing and filming the amazing sharks at Tiger Beach was not amazing enough, Wetpixel is joining forces with Gates Underwater Products and RED Digital Cinema to offer a unique event. The trip will focus not only on capturing the stunning interactions at the venue, but will also provide a clinic on using the new tools that digital cinema technology provides to create stunning, evocative imagery.

We will be joined by Gates’ CEO John Ellerbrock and Sean Ruggeri of RED who will share their encyclopaedic knowledge of underwater filmmaking and their respective products with the participants. During the trip, John will offer a “light” version of his Setup/Test/Operate (STO) course. In addition, both John and Sean will present information about lens choices, housing performance tips, using RED cameras to best effect and how to create stunning underwater imagery throughout the trip.

There will be some loan cameras, housings and equipment available for participants. Those that have already have their own equipment are of course very welcome. The idea is that the event will offer an opportunity for people to try out Gates and RED products, to learn new practical and technical skills as well as enhancing their abilities as underwater filmmakers. These will apply equally to Gates/RED owners and those that are just interested in an immersive filmmaking learning experience.

We will be diving with the incomparable Epic Diving, who are highly regarded in being able to provide safe encounters and memorable with the beautiful sharks at Tiger Beach. Wetpixel has run numerous trips with them and regard them as simply being the best operators for this type of trip.

We will be staying in condo based accommodation at Blue Marlin Cove at the West End of Grand Bahama and travelling out to Tiger Beach each day. Each condo has 2 bedrooms with a private bathroom, full kitchen, living room with a half bath room, patio and laundry room

The trip’s dates are 5 to 11 November. Arrival date is on 5 November and we plan to offer a build up and prep session on the evening of the 5th, including an STO field training “crash course.” We plan to start this at around 3pm. We will be out diving on 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 November with departure from the West End on 11 November.

Flights should be booked into Freeport, Grand Bahama (FPO). Taxis are easy to get from the airport to the West End.
