UPDATE: June 5, 2005 - Spots still available! Airline tickets may be difficult to acquire at this point, but please try, if you are interested. :)
Hone your underwater digital photography skills and join Eric Cheng in Bonaire this July for the annual digital shootout! Last year we had a great time out in Fiji. This year, I’ll be lecturing on image management and sharing photos both electronically and in print. Other presenters include Jim Watt, Berkley White, and Dan Baldocchi.
UW Digital Photo Workshops, Mar 5-6, 2005
In Boston: two, three-hour digital workshops by Eric Cheng, Wetpixel’s administrator and editor. The first workshop covers digital underwater photography basics, and the second covers workflow from the camera to print.
Welcome to the new Wetpixel.com! Over the past few years, Wetpixel has grown from a basic news listing site into the premier online resource for underwater digital photography. Our community of registered members is over 3,000 strong, and we have many times that number in regular, anonymous visitors.
The new design is based on an advanced, multi-blog engine, which will allow us to participate more in the main content areas of the site. More importantly, it is now very easy to browse back in time through our archives. Wetpixel even has RSS and Atom feeds now, so you don’t have to manually check our front page to look for new content.

At DEMA 2004 here in Houston, Mark Rupert from Inon America took a few minutes to explain the functions of their new D-2000 Strobe. This is an optically-triggered only strobe, meaning there is no place to connect an electronic sync cord. It is specifically targetted at the underwater consumer camera photographer using a Canon, Olympus, or Nikon OEM housing, and wanting automatic flash exposure control. Inon Japan leant Wetpixel some equipment to review and test, as there is a lot of interest in the D-2000 and many questions about how well it works.

Sigma just released a new macro lens called the 150mm f2.8 APO DG HSM (it's quite a mouthful) at a price of $600. I purchased this macro lens based on advice from Wetpixel moderator Craig Jones. It uses an ultrasonic motor for focusing, so FTMF is possible, and it's also an internal focusing lens, so the front doesn't rack out. I believe it is the fastest macro lens at this focal length and working distance. Since I have two 8 megapixel cameras, one with a 1.25x cropped sensor, and one with a 1.6x cropped sensor, I decided to take some test photos to see what the lens is cabable of.

Housings for the PANASONIC GS150, GS200, GS250 & GS400
Thanks to Jim Bullit from OceanBrite for letting us know that Ocean Images has just released the new Dolphin Housing for the PANASONIC GS150, GS200, GS250 & GS400 3-Chip MagicWire Camcorders. The Dolphin Panasonic Housing brings electronic controls and a wide open LCD screen to the Panasonic Housing market for the first time!!! The Camcorder fits snugly in the Housing, reducing excess space and keeping the Housing size and weight to a minimum. This Housing allows the user full use of the LCD display on the Camcorder. The clear acrylic rear closure plate provides a full view of the Housing interior and the Camcorder' LCD display.
