Zillion has just released its underwater housing for the Canon 5D Mk II digital SLR. The housing can be configured with two grip styles (traditional and hanging), and features both optical and wired (optional) bulkheads for strobe sync.

The housing is made of ABS plastic and has a suggested retail price of ¥280,000 for the traditional grip model (around $2,870). At the moment, the only way to get the Zillion housing outside of Japan, Korea and Thailand is by contacting Aquaforum. Continue reading for photos of the housing. [via Tony Wu / FiNS]

  1. Am i missing something? How does a 5D Mark 2 trigger optical strobes? I thought the 5D mark 2 has no internal flash?

  2. ABS plastic? Pictures look like machined metal housing. Machined plastic housing maybe? I’m confused.

  3. Odd to me as well. It looks like there are aluminum welds around some of the body panels. Maybe it is a combination of the two. Aluminum and plastic? What ever.
The 5DMKII does not have any internal flash.>>>> So I am don’t get it either.???

  4. There must be an electronic dongle that converts hotshoe to optical signal. I know they exist; I seem to remember that INON had one, but that it was blocked from US sale because of patent issues with Light & Motion.

  5. ABS plastic with a nice paint job.

Built-in converter. I’ve been using the same technology for years with my 5Ds in Zillion housings. Haven’t touched a sync cord in ages
