FANTASEA #2837

October 24, 2008 - 11:51 AM

Fantasea‘s goal is to provide affordable underwater photography and diving products. They have full underwater photography systems that include a housing, base, arms, strobes, and connectors. Howard and Nadav Rosenstein took Matt Segal and me on a tour of their new products.

Last month, Fantasea kicked off a strobe naming contest on Wetpixel, which resulted in the re-naming of their newest strobe, the Remora. The Remora has a standard YS mount on it which can be used to mount a focus light. It uses 4 x AA batteries, and can take between 240 and 360 shots per set (depending on who you ask). It is triggered by an optical slave sensor, has a guide number of 20 (ft, air), and retails for $200.

Fantasea also was showing a Nikon P6000 underwater housing prototype, a new aspheric macro diopter, a wide-angle dome lens for compact cameras, and the LED 360 dive light, which takes 4 AA batteries and shuts off when it sees a strobe fire.

Howard told me that their new wide-angle lens doesn’t vignette even when put in front of compact cameras that have a 28mm (35mm equivalent) lens. “It lets you shoot at about 20mm (35mm equivalent),” he said.
