Wetpixel Guadalupe Sharks Expedition 2018

Guadalupe1

Join Wetpixel and trip leader Abi Mullens in Guadalupe, Mexico from 26 to 30 August 2018 to dive and photograph the famed Great White Sharks (Carcharodon carcharias) aboard the Solmar V of the Pelagic Fleet. The Solmar V was the first live aboard dive boat to begin visiting the island in 2005 to view the Great White Sharks.

Guadalupe2

Guadalupe is located 165 miles west of Ensenada, Mexico and is one of the most accessible places in the world to view these apex predators in the wild. Visibility regularly reaches 100 feet (30 meters) and water temperatures hover around 65 - 70° Fahrenheit (18 to 21° C).

The boat is a 1 1/2 hour drive over the US border, and then the sea crossing from Ensenada to reach the island takes 18 hours. The trip is 5-days/4-nights with 3 full days on the water in the cages with the sharks.

Guadalupe3

The Solmar V has two surface four-person cages and one three-person submersible cage that hangs at 30 feet (10 meters) below the surface. All air is provided via surface supplied air from the boat, which means this expedition is open to non-divers and divers alike. Wetpixel has booked half the boat (9 people) with one trip leader, which we expect to fill very fast.

Please note this expedition is open to non-divers!

As always, this trip is subject centric and will focus on giving underwater image makers the best opportunities to photograph and film Great White Sharks in their natural habitat.
