Olympus is about to announce a new 35 mm f3.5 macro that goes to life size (1:1). For those who are not up to speed with Olympus digital that would be a 70 mm macro that shoots 2:1 in 35 mm equivlence. Thats a 34 degree AOV all the way to twice life size with no tubes or diopters attached. The 8mp E-500 entry SLR will also be coming with it.

Looks like Olympus is doing the same product introduction by "leaks" technique that Canon's perfected.

the specs are almost identical to the E-300.

It appears the leak has been pluged for now. All we need now is another D200 sighting. You can see the entire lens lineup here, if this is still up and running.

Where did you get the information suggesting that the



(name copied straight from the 4/3 consortium at the link already posted above) images at 1:1. The name certainly very strongly suggests that the maximum reproduction ratio for this lens on the imager is 1:3.5, which qualifies as a macro lens (my understanding being that >1:4 reproduction ratio "qualifies" as a macro/close up lens), but certainly isn't 1:1, (or 2:1 in 35mm "equivalence", whatever that means ).

or does 1:3.5 stand for max. aperture?

It's an f3.5 lens. I got the 2:1 from the fact that it's a 1:1 lens on a 2x crop sensor, so 2:1 35mm equivalent.

This information was added to several of the offical Olympus sites in europe and then pulled several hours later. MTF charts were posted which were on par with Olympus superb 50 mm F2 macro. Minimum focus distance for the 35 mm F3.5 was listed at 14.6 cm/ 5.84 inches, at 1:1 which would be 2:1 on a 35 mm sensor.
