I have decided that i really want the Sigma 10-20mm lens for my D70

But what dome / extension do i require? I have the 8" dome and the extension for the 18-70mm kit lens. Would this work? I also have the WA dome shade will i require the FE dome shade for this lens?

Hello Alastair, I have the Sigma 10-20mm and used it with the same extension ring you have and have good result, as far as the FE shade versus the WA shade, I use the FE on my rig but maily because I also have the 10.5mm fisheye, I recommend doing a pool dive or shallow dive with the lens at 10mm using the smallest aperture f:22, f:32... presetting your focus at infinity and leave it on manual focus. Your shot will be out of focus but that's OK, we are doing this to check for vignetting, if you notice any dark area in the corner, order the FE shade, if nothing shows your set up will forever be OK,

Because by doing what you did you focused to infinity and recessed the lens inside the housing as close as possibly can be done, you put the lens as wide as can be done and gave it the maximum depth of field you could give it, anything that should show will show, if not it will never show, it's impossible to encounter such a radical setting undewater.

I just got a 10-20 Sigma for use with a Subal D2X / FE2 combo. I can't get over how cheap this lens was.......... $695 AUD ( 12 -24 Nikon $1895.00AUD )

( Still waiting for my Aqautica in BLACK to match my Brabhaus SLR ! )

My findings to date :

Followed Jeans suggestions and dremmelled the 105 subal focus ring for perfect fit - looks like a factory fit...

FE2 DOME & 50mm EXT ring - Vignetting terrible , added +2 Diopter required so no vignetting - close focus is fine but possible problem with focus on subject 15 ft away - won't lock focus.

FE2 DOME & 20MM EXT ring - NO DIOPTER - close focus seems OK - distant focus seems spot on.

More to report after diving it tomorrow.


Side Note - those extra 2 degrees may not sound much boy do they make a difference.

Ah come man, life would be too easy , the Sigma as a rear positioned zoom ring the Nikkor is up front and is a different size also.

I see you guys are curently using the new sigma 10-20/f4-5.6. I am also about buying this lens... Have you already any experience with this lens underwater? I am still waiting for the ikelite 8"dome, so have time to consider all news about this sigma WA lens.
I would apreciate any user reports!

I have the lens and recently shot a pool ad series, mostly over/under shots, love it, hard to beat the price also!
