Is there anyone knows it's possible to use the wireless function underwater or not?videlicet the wireless signal can through the seawater, Acrylic,Delrin, etc or not?

thanks

The problem of wireless is that infra-red doesn't travel through seawater! So even if you can get it out of the housing, it won't reach the other strobe.

IR does go through water... just not very well. My video housing uses IR to communicate between control handle and housing. It is however, only 5 cm apart sensor to sensor, so it's pretty much right next to each other.

Would a simple, wet fiber optic cable solve the problem?

IR can transmit through seawater and acrylic. IR will not pass through Delrin.

Are you planning on using the ST-E2 Transmitter? You might need to put in some angled prisms, made of polished acrylics, to cause the IR to "reflect" to where the strobes will be.

Now you would have ETTL + no Sync Cords!!!!

I'd rather have cables to my strobes when the whale sharks are mating in front of me! Either that or a Magic Filter attached to my lens (shameless plug biggrin.gif - even though they aren't quite on sale yet).

Is the image created by Mark Shargel applicable?

thanks everyone!

Actually I'am planning to use tow 580EX, one for master connect with housing use S6 cable and one for slave use the Wireless.

Just like Curtisleo says, I have already tested them, IR can transmit through fresh water and acrylic. can not pass through Delrin. I'm still trying to find the simple
and cheaper way.

look forward to have more your precious advice.
