Hi,

I intend to buy one WA lens. I am currently using the 18-70 kit lens for WA shots and want to upgrade to the tokina 12-24, 15mm FE, or the 10.5mm FE. I really want the best results I can get... no problem to handle any of those.
Firstly, what WA lens would you start with? I intend to shoot mainly sharks, scenery and wreks - all the WA is for.
Secondly, any idea if the tokina 12-24 would work behind the Ike 8" dome? Nobody from Ike crew was able to answer this question. I read somewhere that the zoom clamps and ring fit like a glove... But would be the lens set correctly? I mean, would the rays meet at the entrance of the pupil?
And finally, Ike does not provide any extensions for the 10.5mm with the 8" dome. Are they going to be making any in the future?

Thank you for advise and recommendations

I'm also interested in that lens and asked Ikelite about it, I also got an answer that there is no data if the lens will work with Ike's ports since the lens diameter (3.3'') is on the limit.
Ike, since the Tokina looks like a good WA lens and can be good substitute to the Nikon 12-24DX, can you check if its work?

Another non-Nikon option that may be good for underwater photography is the new Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM. The very few reviews say it perfoms well on land. Anybody thinking about using it underwater?

yes, best wideangle I've had on my 10D so far. it's housed already (extension ring) but I won't be underwater before october.

I have the lens and have done a few dives with it, here is some shots, i'm still working out the optical center position for the 10mm portion so the edges are so so. it's slow but for the price hard to beat. I did some withe the new D2x housing but these where in a chocolate milk puddle blink.gif , nothing usefull except ergonomics testing. thoses included are from my Fuji S2pro at 10mm. I like the coverage it give, I was use to having 104 degree with the 14mm and 35mm film so it's kind of going back to a familiar way of seeing things. just bidding my time until a prime 10mm rectilinear hits the market smile.gif

If the Nikon version is not different in terms of optical design (I really think it is not, just no guarantee), you might want to try 58mm, measured from the camera bayonett surface as optical centre of the lens smile.gif

I'm with Arnon, Ike. Can the Tokina 12-24 work? I emailed Brett and didn't get a conclusive answer.

Thanks.

We believe we can provide a special stem for the new 8" dome that will allow Sigma and Tokina 12-24 lenses to operate. Should know more in the next week or two since we are supposed to have sample lenses the week of August 22-26.

Hallo Ike,

any idea if the tokina 12-24/4 can operate behind the ikelite 8" dome? There are some good news on the Ike web about the sigma 10-20, but still empty column for the 8" dome and tokina 12-24 combo.
How is it???
