Are they significantly cheaper than Nexus ports?

cheers

I dont think that they are they cheaper than Nexus ports but they are mineral glas ports and more alrounders. Athena have a reputation off making exelent ports offen used with Olympus , Sea & Sra & nexus housings

Of cource you have the altenative to go with a NEXUS FP-160-5 glas port but I dont think that nexus have a glass port bigger that 160

Hi,

I finally got my DSLR and housing from the classifieds, a D100 and Nexus housing. It came with only a 60mm macro flat port, so now I am looking for a wide angle port. I am looking to use the kit lens 18-70mm to start out, graduate to the 12-24mm (will use it for topside WA as well) and then move on to the 10.5mm.

As I understand Nexus have a dome port designed specifically for both the 18-70 & 12-24. There is also the 170mm dome + extension that I seen many on the forum use. I was wondering which is a better choice? Is there a dome that I could possibly use all 3 lenses, so I can minimize purchases and of course travelling weight/space?

Thanks,

Chad

If you whant to use the 18-70 and later the 12-24. go with the new ZP 1224-10 mineral glass port from Nexus. It is much better than the old one. You can focus about 5 inches in front of the port at 12mm. If you whant this port
here what you need of expertsions etc..
A lens hood LH-Z1224
Zoom gear for 12-24mm ZGB-NAFZ12/24F4G
Zoom gear for 18-70mm ZG-NAFZ18/70CG
Correcting lens for 18-70mm FCL-K672

The 120- 7 Dome port is working exelent with the 10.5 & 16mm Nikon lens. I have one. Is very small & compact and is a true hemisperical dome. Is not perfect for under -Over photos but for everything elses go with it.

There is the old acrylic dome FP170 that work with all 10,5-16-12-24 with some diopters and expensions but I wll go with the new ports becauce they are:
a: Design only for those lenses
b: You can focus very neat to the port / dome
c: Together thery take les space that the old 170 dome

You can go to Google and the Athena-opt.com web address, then to translate and find all the information on the Athena domes and other equipment...Phil Rudin

I have search the Web like Serlock Holmes :-)
I have found that the OPD 170 port have a extension.
W12-24 for Nikon ED12-24/4GD & Nikon ED18-35/3.5-4.5D but what about 18-70 ??

Nexus have one more dome: FP160-5 . Its work with
10.5mm - 16mm - 18mm - 20mm

Thats the reason that I think that the altenatives are only two.

Get a Athena dome for the 10.5 16 and the 12-24

or

Get the smal nexus 120-7 dome for 10,5 & 16mm and the
ZP 1224-10 for 12-24 & 18-70 lens

Thanks for the info.

It seems like the Athena is ideal for true WA and FE, as well as over-under shots.

The Nexus ZP 1224 should be more compact, but you'd need another port for 10.5 coverage.

Has anyone used these ports before?

The Nexus 120-7 is a kick ass dome for WA and FE.
Great quality Glas, Metalic Hood that protect all the dome, true hemispherical, small & light.
I dont know if the fact that is is not the best for over-under shots is a
reason to dont buy it. Most off the time you shoot WA and FE.
The Athena is ideal as one dome solution. You cant (i am not sure)
use the 18-70 lens and its bigg and heavy.

The Nexus ZP 1224 is loved in some Japanice and Taiwan forums where Nexus is a king. They say that it is way better that the old Nexus acrylic dome FP170

I am to waiting for more infos about the Athena dome.
