Hi all, I just read that Nikon has a magnifying eyepiece (DK-17M) for the D2x, which can be useful to us. They say it enlarges the viewfinder 1.5 times, while still allowing to see it all. Has anybody tried it into a housing? I wanted to know if it fits. Here is a link with some info and a photo:

While I've never tried this eyepiece I suspect there would not be enough room between the housing eyepiece and the camera to allow for it's use. Also as the housing eyepiece is designed to work optically with the standard camera eyepiece it may introduce a finder focus problem or not allow full finder view.

Thanks for the info!

It's not really info Luiz, just my opinion

But you're welcome!

These things are impossible to find at the moment - I think Nikon has announnced them but hasn't delivered yet. I also don't think that they will fit into any of the existing housings - but if I was Aquatica or Sealux - the only companies planning D2X housings, but who have not yet finished them - I would be strongly considering incorporating this eyepiece (if it works as well as Nikon claim).

I've seen some discussion at Nikonians and DPReview, and everyone that has one, loves it, that's why I was interested.

As far as the Aquatica, well happy to say I'm photographing it tonight for thae catalog and yes, for wetpixel also. We have an eyepiece incorporated in the design of the housing and as Dave mentioned it might come into conflict with this eyepiece, but I have one in order just to make sure. we are always open to new idea! the picture should be on line tomorrow, and for the eye piece, well if its one of those miracle, i'm pretty convinced we, along with the other manufacturer can do a little re-engineering.

I have one that superglued in to my d2h to keep others from stealing, and I have trouble using a d70 or d100 now... It is physically too large to be used in conjunction w/ anyones eyepiece now.
The eyepiece starts to vignette more rapidly than the stock viewfinder when moved away from your eye. Because of this, I think building a housing optic that is designed to work with this would be a challenge, but could definately be done.

I have a DK17M and it now lives on my D2X (excepting when it's in the Seacam housing as there is neither room nor need).
You can view the entire image (corners are a bit dark) but do need to look right or down to read the info displays.
Highly recommended for above water photography.

There are some other solutions out there.
Click to view attachmentTake a look att the picture . On the left there is a Mask Magnification that somebody have put on his Nexus housing with good results
Dive OptxOn thr Right is my Nexus solution. Looks like its the same solution like Nikons
Viewfinder magnifier. It will be intrsting to test the NEXUS D2X multifinder housing
and compare with the DK17M . I am pretty sure that the results will be the same

I quite liked reading the translation even though I probably won't put one on my D100.

The standard eyepiece sticks out .04 in from the body at the attachment point. The DK-17M, with its little rubber eyepiece ring, sticks out .32 in. Remove the rubber ring, and it's now down to .28 in.
I have the Subal ND2 housing, and there's just no way it will fit. I think just the plastic protector screen on the camera back makes for a tight fit, and it's quite thin.
Eyepiece seems nice though, with no loss of image display or info. Not quite so if the DK19 eyecup is used, as I do on land.
