In mey search to find a housing for my new Nikon D70s I will choice between Subal & hugyfot.

One off the thinks that i have miss on my old Olympus 5050 is the lack off ea exelent viewfinder. From what i see Nikons D70 viewfinder is not very big eather.

As a freediver i need a system where i fast and easy can see & frame my pictures.
Becauce I am newer very slow or still underwater I have think that this small viewfinder will not work. Maybe a magnifier give you a advantage to get a better a shot.

Now Subals original housing have a biit bigger viewfinder but is it enough or must I go with Subal's Optic GS 180 magnifier?

BTW. maybe i will not pursale the Optic GS 180 att the first place but i like to have this option open. Thats one off th reasons that i like to go with Subal
Hugyfot will make one magnifier but we never know when.

BTW Sealux make a magnifier for his SEALUX CD 70 housing

The Sealux and Subal finders are the same.

Hi!

A friend of mine bought the Sealux housing with the finder and was very pleased. You can find a review (in German) at uwpix

A good finder is quite expensive but IMO worth the expenses. It may save you a lot of time and breath.

I have read Julians review.

So Sealux and Subal finders are the same? But not on the Price :-)

Anyway what important is if you must put you eye in perfect line with the magnifier to see the picture.

Hi!

The angle of view through the finder is limited. The magnification (or more presicely, the "not minimization") of the image causes some other side effects. One of these side effects is the limited deviation from the center axis.

Yes, angle of view is limited. Off axis either you can't see anything or the picture is very blurry. However, you will get use to that quite quickly with practice. When it works, it really is excellent.

I am a bit worried about situations where i must take a picture withing some seconds. Offen when freediving you use your camera like a warrepoter use his and there I ask myself if the magnifier will help me or not.

My last post probably made it sound worse than it is. The first few times that you use the GS Viewfinder, you probably will hate it but really, it does not take long to know exactly where to line up your eyesight/viewfinder and after that it should be quite easy and quick. I am a slow learner and still occasionally struggle with it after 7 dives but it is getting better and better. I used to use Sea and Sea housing with the D70 and when I first hold the Subal D70 housing with GS viewfinder, the difference is quite amazing.
Some people had problem looking through the smallish D70 viewfinder and only manage to see parts of the viewfinder at best, let alone all the digital display. GS Viewfinder may take you a touch longer to line up but once it lines up, you will see everything with not much effort.
