HI EVERY ONE
I,m new to digital SLR underwater photography & I,m awaiting delivery
of a seacam housing for my D70. I,ve got a 12x24mm nikon wideangle
lens & i,m now looking for a macro lens, has anyone got or has used a
50mm 2.8 DG macro lens? I would be very grateful for any feed back
good or bad or if I should look at an other lens.

Hi Andy, I really think you should get the 60mm micro Nikkor, it is the sharpest lens I have, one of the best Nikon has ever made, and only a bit more expensive than the Sigma. To answer your question, I've never seen anybody with a Nikon camera shooting this lens, just because the 60 Nikkor is excellent.

I strongly agree......I think there is a lightly used Nikkor 60mm macro in the Classified section.....part of a N90 package

I'll add my voice to the other glowing recommendations.
It is a great lens and considering the price for which you can find them in lightly used condition, it is hardly worth considering other options. I paid US$200 for an "Excellent" condition lens at

I suppose there has to be one...........
I have both the Nikon 60mm and the Sigma 50mm.
I think they are both excellent lenses the 60 just a shade quicker.
I tend to use the 50mm more than the 60mm. I just find it a little more flexible.

Some input from the camera repair side of the business.
The 60/28 Nikon lens is superior in optical quality, mechanical quality and af speed.
The Sigma 50mm is a very good lens optically, but very poor quality mechanically. After moderate use this lens as well as many other Sigma AF lenses will develop a raspy noise from the focus mechanism and then get progressively slower and slower in af speed.
Assuming price is not the determining factor I'd recommend the Nikon lens.
