Does anyone know when the new 18-70 DX lens will be available in the US? I called B&H today and they did not have a date.

Karl,
I am amazed at what people are asking for the lens. Adorama wants $459?!?!?!? There is one for sale on Ebay for $420.
I am hoping things will settle down and the lenses will go in-stock at reasonable prices - but it may be a month or so.
Cheers

Wow.........makes the kit price of $300 look pretty good!

I think that's the general idea of why the D70 kit is of so much value. The kit was slated to come out in late March and the lens by itself in the first couple weeks of April at a price in the $mid-400 range.
Constantly watching dpreview, I'm still waiting for folks to get up to speed with the D70 as right now...people are blaming the camera for problems left and right (color shifts, moire, etc) but it may just be newbies not knowing what they're doing, yet.
Really looking forward to when you get the camera underwater, Karl. Good luck with it.

Bruce
in the uk it is mostly the kits that are being sold.
apparently they can produce several thousand cameras a month in Thailand but not the lenses, which is why there is a shortage.
here in the uk they are now doing kits with the cheaper 24 to 80 lens

I don't think you will see them very close to $300 kit price.
It is a pretty nice lens.

I bought the 18-70 DX lens here in Singapore last night, on my way back to Australia, and wanted to check if anybody knows which port, extension ring & diopter combination is required for use with my Subal D10 housing

Hi Don,
You'll have to tell us...:-) I think you may be one of the first people to take this lens underwater.
From what I understand, you may not need a diopter at all as the lens focuses close. You will of course need the right extension ring - but I can't say which one. From my trials with the 12-24DX lens, you may be surprised by which ring you need to use. I think the nodal point in DX lenses is much farther back than for normal lenses.
Sincerely,
James Wiseman
