Anyone think they can get this housing to work with the D-Rebel?

How similar are the controls?

Totally different James - no chance to make it work.

The cameras look VERY similar though. What in particular makes you say it won't work?
I'm not talking about just sticking the camera in the housing. I'm thinking - use a custom sized camera to align it so that at the very least the shutter, and command dials are accessible. How do those controls look?

You are kind of loosing me here! I am not sure what good this housing will be even if the shutter and control dial did match up. You would not have access to any of the D-Rebel's other controls not to mention not being able to see the LCD monitor!
But for the record, not even the shutter or command dial will match as the D-Rebel and the Rebel G ( for which the housing was made) are quite different in physical dimensions ( 142 x 99 x 72.4mm vs 145.7 x 92 x 61.9mm ) I am just wondering what you were scheming??
As for the Sea and Sea CX600 housing it is one of their best housings ever and the EBay listing price is a steal. It will work for the Rebel G or the Rebel X but not for the Rebel 2000 - for that you need the CX-603 housing. I notice there is another CX 600 package ( huge ) listed on Ebay today.

after having a production 10d housing for a few days from Sea&Sea, I can say it is one of the best ever as well (IMO, the NX100 film housing gets that hands down). Accessing all controls is amazing, and does so very ergonomically, with less bulk than the d60 housing.
This is good news, since the Rebel and D70 will be in the same box. I really wish I had a Subal and Jonah offering to do a side by side comparison...

As in best Sea & Sea ever or best housing ever? How about as compared to Ike and Aquatica (and yes, I am going to buy a D Reb housing......... someday

If everything lined up for the main controls, it wouldn't be that hard to put a window in the back of the housing for the LCD (provided the back is thick enough).

James,
My buddy Ron Yanega, who can engineer ANYTHING has been adapting various housings plus building his own for years. The front grip on the EOS300D is deeper than film Rebel bodies. This is just one dimensional consideration making new molds from manufacturers necessary.
PLUS as Andre states what is the point of having a dSLR with no review capability? The back may be so thin already that trying to machine a surface and install a window may be more of a challenge than it's worth.
The new housings coming out are siginificantly smaller than past models anyway and would likely be a better investment.

I hear you Dave.
I guess it all comes down to the fact that I'm an engineer and enjoy tinkering with stuff. And I have a specialist machine shop about a mile from my house...:-)
Cheers
