Hello Everyone,
This is my first posting here. I have a D100 that I am about 95% sure I am going to get an Ikelite housing for. I am curious as to the best suggestions for strobes. I have heard that there is a housing for the Nikon SB80DX flash, which I have. I am really a newbie when it comes to this stuff. I am very comfortable with my camera on land and I have done a fair amount of U/W video, however the U/W still stuff...

Are there any specific reasons why I should look at a different housing? I would like to keep the financial end of the whole project somewhere on the planet earth  . I figure I am going to be in the neighborhood of a couple grand for Strobe and housing? (or have I been smoking something?) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Ike makes very good housings and I used his N90 housing for years, there is no reason to change unless another brand offers options that are not available with the Ikelite. if you plan to shoot a lot of wide angle the other makers allow the use of larger diameter dome ports. Also due Ike housings will not allow the use of some lenses BUT most, if not all of the most commonly used lenses for UW are supported.

Strobes that is a more difficult decision. The choice will depend on what you plan to shoot. Again if wide angle is your Goal 2 strobes will make life much easier. The D 100 will accept any strobe if used in manual mode that uses the nikon protocol. If you want TTL then you are currently limited to the new Nikon flashes that support DTTL. Housing a SB80DX will work for macro but you may need more power in underwater wide-angle situations. But, in reality TTL is seldom used for wide angle shooting underwater anyway, so for this type of shooting, consider getting dedicated underwater strobes with a nice wide beam.
