Stephen, Eric and other 1Ds shooters - I'm anxious to see whether this awesome camera has the ability to capture better rays than the D100/S2/10D class of camera.

I'm hearing interesting reports on the D2H's ability to handle overexposure - sounds much better than the above cameras and I can't wait to see what this means for sunball capture underwater. Hopefully the D2x carries this trait a step forward without the shadow noise everyone is whining about.

But the 1Ds, as the pimp daddy of digital - how is it in this regard?

And Stephen - any word on a D2H housing yet? I presume the same housing will carry the imminent D2x. I just hope the D2x is less than a year away, but that might be optimistic judging from Nikon's history!

Kasey - I'm presently in Thailand with pretty limited e-mail access, but a quick answer to your question is that the sunball seems to be about the only thing I'd still go to film for over digital. Even with the EOS1Ds.

This camera is probably better than the others, but shooting up towards the sun with a RS 13mm or Nikonos 15mm, or for that matter any of the housed film cameras, gives greater tonal gradations than what I've been able to do with digital so far.

Consider this a work in progress as this camera has a lot of control options I'm just beginning to understand. Also, I wrote a Field Journal for the EOS1Ds while I was out on charter last week and it will soon be posted on www.seacamusa.com. Those who may already be shooting our EOS1Ds and wish an early preview can write to my associate Liz at waterhouse@aol.com and I'm sure she'll be glad to send you an attached document.

As for the D2X, I prefer not to comment until we actually see the camera, but I think you can assume there will be a housing very soon after introduction.

Back out to the Andaman Sea and Burma Banks later today, so bye for now.

Steve
