Hello,

I think I will upgrade my gear to canon full frame camera.
I think I will go for hugyfot housing.

I now need to choose a lens to begin with.
I already have canon 100 macro and canon 50 1.8. But I need another lenses for non macro shot's.
I have thought about 24-105/70L but not sure which one also may be 17-40 or 16-35. or may be a fast prime

I do mostly macro and divers/people shots. Most water where I dive is visibly 1-3m and low ligth. Also focus speed I find very imported.
Which one do you recommend to start with?

In bad viz and light, I suggest going with as wide a lens as you can get, like the 15mm fisheye. I find the Canon fisheye focuses slightly faster than the Sigma but the Sigma focuses slightly closer.
For rectilinear, the 16-35 II is a nice lens but you need a big dome for best corner performance., at least 200mm. Otherwise you may need to get a diopter, which reduces FOV.
Another lens you may want to wait for is the Sigma 12-24 II. The I I personally find not as sharp for 21mp but I know people who find it perfectly alright. The II apparently is better sealed, which is a good thing since you can get dust inside the lens easily in the I.

I think I go for wide rectilinear lens and think 16-35 II will work best because of 2.8 and fast USM focus.

Will the hugyfot 174mm doom work?

I've never used the Hugyfot domeport so I can't say for certain if it'll work. But I've tried 150mm dome ports and it wasn't nice. I have tried a couple of 8" domes and the 16-35 @ 16 requires at least f8 to have decent corners. Bigger domes like the Seacam Superdome and Aquatica Megadome have better corners at even f7.1. It's all subjective so you may not care. I do so I give out my opinion on that.
It is possible to use a diopter but you just get a reduced FOV as well as a picture that isn't as sharp.

Hi Marc,
I'm interested as to why you want to upgrade to full frame vs. say a 7D?
marc1990
different in price is small considering lenses and housing.
And the one stop extra light is big plus(water is here always dark). (if you don't belive me check this site)
Also most (canon) fast lenses(1.4 and 2.8) are made for Full frame.(you do not find something like EF 24 1.4 USM for crop(closed match:
Sigma 20mm F 1.8))

Also personal point: I have used the 5D mk2 above water, in low light and have to say, I was impressed.

I have to agree 7d has fast framerate over 5D but this not point for me.

And the main point
I don't want to buy now 7D and after half year regret I didn't buy 5D.
It is something I wont replace in next 3-5 years or so.

There are adapters available for hugyfot housing. Which dome port(s) do you recommend for canon 16-35 2.8?
