Hi All,
I just saw on dpreview that Kenko announced three new Teleconverters and i was wondering whether these new converters could be compatible with the most recent Nikon 60 mm AF-S macro lens. They mention on their website:

'The PRO 300 AF 1.4X DGX converter has genuine Gate Array IC (Integrated Circuitry). It means the converter’s unique circuitry maintains signal integrity between the camera body and lens.'

Is there anyone on the forum who has an idea whether we can expect compatibility with the recent Nikkor AF-S lenses? At the end of the text they mention only compatibility with Canon EOS (EF, not EF-S) and Nikon AF.

Thanks Udo. I suspect that the new TC will not AF on the newer Nikors. My older 1.4 Pro AFs fine with my older 60 & 105 macros, but doesn't always display the correct Apt.

Yes, i noticed. But the TC i have (a soligor pro) also works withe the 105 VR and also with the 18-200 AF-S, and any other lens i have, except with the 60 mm AF-S. i think the reviews on this website are based on the previuos TC i suppose. I'm hoping for a positive reply from the Kenko support site.

How does the Kenko compare to the Nikkor TC-14E II, is it just down to price?

Sorry for the dumb questions, just want a little clarification, I take it the teleconverter can be used for wide angle macro as well as a dioptre on the 60mm?

Do I also take it the x1.4 works better than x2 because it is a more subtle magnification/focal length change?

Will the wide angle macro work ok with an 8" dome port?

This seems a very favourable and inexpensive way of getting a different effect smile.gif

The Kenko is indeed cheaper, and i'm not sure but i think that the Kenko compatible with more lenses then the Nikkor TC.

a 2X TC takes away more light then a 1.4X and because of that your autofocus might get in trouble. with a 1.4X you loose one stop, so your f/2.8 lens becomes a f/3.5 and with a 2xTC you lose roughly three stops (your f/2.8 lens becomes a f/5.6 lens)

If you add a 1.4X TC to you wide angle lens, most likely your WA lens still works but it will not be positioned right in your domeport, possibly resulting in unsharp images. You'll need to buy a port extension to solve this problem. But an 8" dome port is not very suitable for WA/macro work because the dome is simply too big to come close AND light your subject properly.

Thanks very much Udo, I ordered the "Kenko 1.4x Teleplus Pro 300 DGX" yesterday, I'll consider a 6" dome port and another extension ring when I have recieved it and tried it out, mainly to spread the overall cost out.

Cheers
Paul
