Hello everyone, I have a canon 400D camera in a patima housing with a canon 10-22mm lens. I am using a 40 mm extension and the Athena 170mm dome. I have found that my images are a little soft. I ahve been told that a +2 diopter will help me. Has anyone had experience with the 10-22mm and a diopter? I was thinking of getting the canon 500D but don't want to waste the money on this expensive diopter is the cheaper ones will work. Any info would help greatly.
Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,
The Canon 500D is designed to work with long focal length lenses. While I guess it would work with a 10-22mm I doubt it would be performing to the best of its ability and I suspect you'd be better off with a less expensive standard dioptre.

My experience with less expensive diopters is that they are very thick, there is a possibility that the diopter will show extensive vinjetting at 10mm...
I have the same lens and port and experienced the same problem with soft edges, my solution was to invest in the tokina 10-17mm fisheyezoom, with the athena dome and a 22mm extension.

I've tried expensive Canon diopters underwater and whilst they are excellent on land and certainly work exceptionally well in the role for which they were designed - close-up work - underwater for dome port correction I find that cheaper diopters work just as well.

I think I will take a miss on the 500D Diopter. Can anyone recommend a brand of the cheaper ones that would still be decent?
Thanks for the replies,
Matt
