Full Version: Which Nexus dome port to buy for 10.5 and 12-24?

I am noticing manufacturers recommending ports for particular lenses and then users finding this not the be the case with less than ideal optics especially near the edges of the images.

I am asking Nexus users, which ports, extensions and diopters for 2 lenses: the Nikons 10.5mm and the 12-24mm

And what about the Tokina 10-17mm? What do people think of this lens and can I get a Nexus zoom gear for this lens?

I already have a 230mm port for my 16mm fisheye (film) and it works great. But I am yet to buy the 2 other Nikon lenses so haven't tested them with this port.

A friend, who has no ports, is asking me which port.

Thanks
Mary

10.5mm - Nexus has a small custom port which alot of people like.
12-24mm - using with the FP170 port, 40mm ext ring & +4 diopter. A little pin cushion distortion but sharp edges. Nexus has a custom 12-24 port, but it vignettes at 12-14mm, so I won't use it with this lens.

Hi,
the HG-725 supposedly fits the Tokina 10-17 fisheye. I have one currently on order (though I don't have the lens yet).
Hope that helps.

I use three Nexus ports with these lenses:
10.5mm with the small port and the large dome for split level shots.
12-24 with the large dome and 40mm extension and the custom dome: I do not see vignetting, but at wide apertures the edges are a bit soft: I think that the vignetting comes from using a diopter in a large mount; I use +2D in a B+W mount and see no cut-off, but with +4D I got vignetting (the diopter was much fatter, including the mounting ring).
I can't comment on the Tokina, but I've had mechanical failure in the one Tokina lens that I bought, so I don't trust them.

All using the custom 12-24mm dome and +2D.
