Last weekend left at 9 pm for Cortez Banks. About an hour into the boat trip I was called to the bow of the boat. When you looked down where the bow of the boat cuts the water you could see in the perfect blackness the perfect outlines of dolphins made by bio-lumenesnce. They would surf in an out with up to 12 at a time riding the bow wave. Tried to take pics with my CP 5000 but got nothing but black. I guess I should have tried the D100 with it's ultra high ISO settings but I didn't want to take the chance.

One of the most amazing sights I have seen. Watched it for an hour. Any other ideas on how to capture it on camera? The 5000 at ISO 800 got nothing. Flash wipes out the bio-lumenesnce.

A wide aperture, high shutter speed 25 frames per second - VIDEO!

Each particle only glows for a tiny fraction of a second. This phenonenon looks even better if you're in the water when something big swims past like a manta - Scares the crap out of you at first though!!!
