hey everyone,
I have the S&S compact dome port.. my 10.5mm lens works fine in there (2.5 inches long), but now I'm looking at the tokina 10-17mm, its listed as 2.8 inches, and I'm thinking that's zoomed in, so it's probably longer zoomed out (can anyone confirm that?)
so what are my options? I'm thinking I can get the extension ring, or will it fit in the regular dome port (is the regular dome port 8 inches wide?), or would I need the extension ring with that port also?
btw, I have a separate thread asking if there is an image quality difference between the compact dome port and the regular dome port, feel free to chime in on the other thread if you have input on that question...
thanks alot,
Scott

hello Andree
I only have the compact dome port.
I don't own the tokina 10-17mm yet.
I just read on wetpixel that the zoom gear 56350 (for the nikon 18-35mm) works perfectly with the 10-17mm lens, but I can't confirm that first-hand.

I would love to hear anyone that can confirm Zoom gear 56350 (for nikon 18-35mm) works perfectly for Tokina 10-17mm lens.
IF this is true! than it's time to sell my Nikon 12-24mm (^0')

The length of the lens increases by a little less than 3mm as you zoom in from 10 to 17mm.

The 18-35 zoom gear fits after some patient fiddling. You will need a small port extension for optimal sharpness and CS3 with the defringe button.

Sea & Sea do not appear to make a particularly small extention ring. The smallest is the SX ring which I believe is about 20mm.
If you have the compact dome I wonder if this would just be too big?

There are two small extention rings made by Sea and Sea, the "Extention ring 22" part number 56270 (Which I do not have) I imagine pushes the port out 22mm, and the "SX Extention ring" part number 50261 (Which I do have) pushes the port out 19mm.

Scott-
The 10-17 Tokina lens is compatible with zoom gear #31114 and the Fisheye Dome Port #56401, the Optical Glass Dome port #SS-30104 and the SX Extension Ring #SS-50261 and should be with the Compact Dome port #56601 and the SX ring as well.
The 31114 gear is compatible with the Nikon and Canon DX series housings.

Hi Mary!
i own Nikon 10,5mm and Nikon 12-24mm
Sometimes i'm thinking, i would be nice if i can get the fisheye effect without the hassle of switching the lens.
I haven't try out tokina 10-17mm
but i heard a lot of wonderful stories about this lens
^,..,^
I think i need to try it out first

Cheers

I'm using the 10-17 with the Optical Dome Port... the SX extension ring... and a Subal zoom gear (!!!)
I don't own any other dome port... but result with that combination are amazing!

Are we saying all three of Sea & Sea ports would benefit from the addition of the SX ring for the Tokina 10-17 lens?

The fisheye dome port #56401 does not require an extension ring, the other smaller dome ports do require the SX extension ring for the 10-17.
