ScubaJo
Greetings,
I thought I'd approach my current dilemna with a different spin within the wetpixel forum.

So here's a question:

For the Sea & Sea shooters out there, you have about $6000, starting from scratch, looking at the catologue - fill my shopping basket smile.gif

1 - DX 350D housing
2 - YS110 strobes
2 - Sea arm VIIs and sync cords
1 - TTL converter
1 - 2/6pin converter

I'm curious to hear how other's have set up their DSLR's using Sea&Sea. Forgive my naivety, I'm new to underwater DSLR and am finally ready to submerge mine. Thanks in advance!

Since you don´t have previous sea&sea equipment you may want to consider other brands such as ikelite...

Hi,

Perhaps he has Sea and Sea ports?

Have you looked at Nikon? They have a nice system for the new D80 that's in that range.

Cheers

I only presumed he hadn´t because he said he was new to underwater DSLR...

Hi Jo,

I'd recommend pricing up a ULCS arm set rather than the Sea Arm VII. The recent Sea Arms are not as smooth in operation and don't give you such varied options as ULCS or similar systems. You'd also end up with two digicam trays if you bought the full Sea Arm VII sets, which I doubt you'd ever use.

I changed from Sea Arm VI to ULCS bouyancy arms and I'm glad I did. Much more managable above and below the surface.

Otherwise the rest of the system is looking good. The 0.66x pickup viewfinder is probably better suited to the 350D than it is to the 5D. The Sea&Sea housings are great for access to the * button, allowing easy operation in Custom function 4-3.

You may have a job seeing the number of frames left due to the viewfinder rim being in the way, but the view of the aperture/speed should be fine.

Might be worth buying a second body too, now that the prices are so low.

Martyn, thanks for sharing your experiences with the Sea and Sea, I really appreciate it!

Scubajo = Canon girl.

I have been shooting my Rebel XT topside for a while now. It's time to get that camera wet. The housed point and shoot can only do so much underwater. Have considered Ikelite, had the chance to speak to both Sea&Sea and Ikelite at DEMA, handle both housings, weighed the pros and cons, feel Sea and Sea is personally suited more to my photography needs. Was curious about other Sea&Sea owners and their setups.

thanks everyone,
Joanna
