Wolfgang Water Worx Bali
Hi Wetpixel Community

finally i got myself setup with a 400D with a 60mm macro lense in a ikelite housing. i also just bought a 17-40 F/4 lense. Good enuff since i'm not really a wide angle man but wish to capture some of our Mola Mola action sometime...

My question is: what kind of port would be best suited for the 17-40 lense ?

Thank you for your time !

Wolfgang

Hey Wolfgang!

I don't know what dome to use on the Ikelite but I wanted to say "hi". Are the Mola Mola still around? If so, I may come and see you. wink.gif

Hi Justin

good to hear from you !! I hope Singapore is treating you nice !!

The Molas should still be there. We had another magnificent run 2 weeks ago...

It's already quite late in the season and there are no guaranties. Water is still cold...

Would be great to see you down here anyway !!

Cheers

Wolfgang

Hey Wolfgang,

guess who just bought a 30D stills camera? no housing.....yet!!

am still enjoying the video for underwater and will be over in bali in june to catchup and come diving again with you. have a super macro lens now, just need to sort out a tripod / monopod to reduce that rock and roll. good shots, just get seasick looking at it!!! Haven't much good footage from komodo, shall have to return, but will bring the DVD. have one sequence from Komodo posted on my website and should be posting some soon from Rowley Shoals: Wozzygal

cheers, and hi to your wife,

Wolfgang,

This link shows ports for the Canon 17-40L lens.

http://www.ikelite.com/web_pages/2port_canon.html

"Standard" 6" dome port works fine if you stop down to f7.1 or smaller. 8" dome port is slightly better, and has room for what some shooters do. Add a +2 diopter for increased edge sharpness which can be a problem with zooms underwater.

The 8" is also a good investment if you intend to try over / under photos. Easier to get more "keepers" with the larger front area.

Hope this helps.
