HELP!!!!
I am scheduled to go on my honeymoon tomorrow and I need advice for buying my first SLR (either the Nikon D50 or Nikon D70s.) I would rather purchase the D50 b/c it is less expensive and I am told that it is easier to use. But I would upgrade to the D70s if it is a better underwater photography option. My biggest concern is that both cameras have the essential features for good underwater photography. Please help me decide. Thank you!!

p.s. Also, what would be a good lens to purchase if I had to purchase just one? Thanks!

Many of the member's are using the D70 or D70s with good results.
This camera is widely available as a body only or as package with the 18-70 DX lens.
Thee are certainly a lot more housing's available for the D70 - which in my view makes it the best option.

plus, you could probably find many previously loved housings for the D70 from people who have upgraded.
in terms of the best lens-- depends on what type of photography you want to do.
macro wideangle..... do you need this lens or a separate lens for topside also?

i went with the d50 because:
1. better pix at high iso which I shoot alot with available light in not pristine water;
2. cheaper cost of the S&S housing - $350 less at B&H
3. couldn't convince myself that I would actually miss the 2nd command dial shooting underwater
4. couldn't convince myself that the performance diff while shooting RAW U/W was worth it; and very little difference when shooting non-RAW stuff
5. the other differences between the two weren't enough to spend the extra money - the big differences required a price jump that I wasn't willing to take
6. didn't have any big investment in CF versus the D50 SD card
7. didn't see any evidence of the supply of used d70 plus housings at reasonable prices being sold by people moving to the D200
we shall see. I just got it. I think you would be hard pressed to tell what camera took what picture if placed side by side.
the money saved allowed me to get a 10.5mm lens which should allow you to take a picture that *is* significantly different that a camera that doesn't have a 10.5 attached! ;-)
good luck

Wow, thank you everyone!! I certainly went to the right web-site for information! Thanks again! I think my choice will depend on the price difference between the cameras. The bigger the price difference the more likely I'll choose the D70s and vice versa. Thanks!
