Hi,

I am going for Lembeh next month, will try out my new Nikon d200 in Sealuxhousing.
I have the nikon 105mm Makro lens and I want to do some 2:1 ratio.
Wich close up lense do I need for that, the canon 250D or the 500D?
what is the difference between these 2 close up lenses?
Or do you recomand other brand close up lenses and what factors +2 or +4?, for me imagequality is very important, so I don't want to make any consessions to that. cool.gif

Hi Rob,

Nikon makes some pretty good diopters for the 105mm - I think they are called the 3T and 4T but I could be wrong.

The Canon diopters are also nice. The 500D is about a +2 and the 250D is about a +4

Cheers

The Nikon 4T is great in air, it is +2.9. As is the Canon 250d, a true +4.

I konw this should be obvious, but make sure your port allows the lens to be exteded to 1:1. These are thick diopters, and will likely require a short extension ring with most 105 ports.

hi.

Thank you James and Ryan.
other question for me is wich diopter will I need to make a 2:1 ratio with my 105mm Nikon? the +2 or the +4 diopter?

This depends on your measuring stick, but I'll assume you mean shooting something half the size of your sensor (not 35mm film), which would be 11.75mm.

I don't have a 250D handy, but I do a Nikon 4t. It doesn't quite get you there, but when refractive magnification is added in, I think it will be pretty close. The 250d should allow 2:1 easily.

Hi Ryan,

Thank you that was what I wanted to know. I was shooting film ( 105mm nikon with 2x teleconverter) so there is where the 2:1 ratio comes from
