I've heard it here and at the camera store. In a month or so, Canon will announce a replacement for the 20D.

The guy at the camera store said 2.5" display.

Any other news?

The only people who actually know the details of what what is coming, are either psychic, or have signed a non-disclosure agreement with canon.

The first group, you cant really trust. The second will never say what they know.

So the best we can do is look at what canon has done in the past and assume they will follow the same trends.

If you look at the lifetime of canon's past bodys, you will see that most of canon's digital bodys have had an 18 month announcement - replacment lifetime.

The 20D was announced in August 04. Thus it's time is up.

PMA (photo marketing association) is the largest annual photography trade show and will take place Feburary 24 - March 1.

Thus it is very likely that the 20D replacement will be announced just prior to or at the beginning of PMA.

As far as specifications. Last two cameras canon introduced have had the 2.5" LCD. Chances are this one will too.

This new camera's main competitor will be the Nikon D200. So expect speficiations to be similar and slightly above the D200. The camera is 3 months younger so it has the technology advantage so you should expect it to be 3-months better.

Unlike nikon which annouces the camera many months before they start selling the camera, when canon announces a new body, it will be available with-in a few days after announcement.

Expect the price to be the same as initial price for 20D @ $1500

If you want more detail than that you will have to turn to the phychics, to find out what they are guessing today, read the forums at www.dpreview.com

Pretty much what Will said. Rumours are definitely flying -- saw a couple posts today about small dealers trying to order 20D bodies and being told the camera has been discontinued! Also seeing posts pop up about an entry-level Canon DSLR that stacks up against the Nikon D50. Only way to find out for sure is to wait for the announcements and maybe the inevitable credible leaks about a week before the initial announcement. Canon seems to really be controlling the information this time around.
