Full Version: Will canon 5D fit in Ikelite for 20D?

I got my Ikelite for 20D, nice setup with the 10-22mm, but ofcourse there is the new 5D... It would be sooo nice to get full frame again! I also got a 10D so, that would be the first to go, before the 20D.

I guess Ike is the only one at this moment who can answer this, but there may be other 20D owners who'd like to know this too: will I be able to squeese a 5D in the 20D housing? I see from your website they have different numbers/housings. Does that mean it is impossible to put a 5D in a 20D housing, or just inconvenient (loosing some functions etc)?

Of course if (when) I win my copyright suit I wont have to fret about money, but until then it's a matter of trying to make the most of every penny. So it would be nice to upgrade to 5D and at the same time be able to use it underwater, without having to change the housing I've barely have had time to get wet since buying it. I haven't even had time to get that bulkhead changed... Oh, so many descisions to make..

No you can not fit the 5D in an Ikelite 20D housing. The buttons line up close enough that the important features are accessable.(shutter and the two wheels) BUT The 5D body is physically to big to fit in the housing.

Also the 5D required different TTL protocol than the 20D so TTL would not work even if you got the camera in by chopping up the camera.

Darn.. I'b be happy enough if i could set shutter, aperture and use flash on manual (what else do you need really), but if you say it isn't possible to even fit it....too bad.

Not even with pliers. I spent an hour trying to make the 5D fit in a 20D housing. If you rip the peg's on the 20D housing out you can get the 5D to mount on the baseplate. But once mounted you can not get the two halves to go together.

The problem is that the hand grip on the 20D is very close fit to the edge of the housing. The 5D handrip is about 4mm wider and hits the edge of the housing.

Pliers aren't the right tool. Try one of these. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
