Full Version: Nikon 10.5mm on Canon??

I came across some information on wetpixel on the use of a Novoflex adapter to mount Nikon lenses on Canon bodies. With the lack of a true 180 degree fisheye in the canon lens lineup, is it possible to use this adapter to mount a Nikon 10.5mm on a Canon cropped sensor camera? (I'm specifically looking at mounting on the 20D). I realize that you would lose autofocus capability, but I've built custom focus rings before. Being a Nikon lens, aperture could be set on the lens, so that communication problem isn't an issue - it's just set for the whole dive.

Anyone tried this/know if there would be a problem? The only major issue I can forsee is the depth of the 10.5 potentially interfering with the mirror on the Canon - it seems to protrude further than the Canon 15fisheye in the rear.

Thanks.

The Nikon is a G type lens, so there is no way to control the aperture Brian. So you'd be stuck at f2.8

I really find it more and more annoying that there is no fisheye like the Nikkor DX 10.5mm for my 10D!

Out of despair, I followed a recent idea here on wetpixel to combine the Sigma 8mm with a teleconverter. That’s the only way I can think of getting such a field of view with these cameras. The sharpness and overall image isn’t as bad as I had expected. But it’s not a bright combination. The teleconverter steals an additional f-stop and you end up with f5.6. The strongest drawback in terms of image quality is Red/Cyan chromatic aberration. I would guess FOV is around 170°. Isn’t it poor, Canon shooters have to consider such solutions?

Not long now to wait for the 5D to be underwater.

Rumours of Sigma making a APS-C fisheye are growing. Plus it makes sense to me because they would be able to make it for Canon, Nikon and Fuji cameras.

I think I'm the one guilty of putting out the idea of 8mm + teleconveter. I wasn't willing to spend the $$ to buy the lens and try it. I think I'll wait for the 5D.

It's likely that Sigma will have an APS-C fisheye soon. They will probably make it for the 1.5x crop to cover all the models. So it will be slightly cropped on the 1.6x cropped Canon's.
