[FONT=Arial][SIZE=1]Hello there,

My name is Hans Leijnse and I am new on this forum.
I have a question about the Sigma 10-20. I will probably by this lens but on dpreview there was a topic about strange behavior with Nikon bodies.
With the SB 800 there was bad communication between camera and lens what resulted in a great hotspot in the centre off the image about +4 stops.
I like to know if there is any experience with this lens on a digital camera underwater.

thanks in advance

Hans Leijnse

I have the lens, and have yet to see any problem with it, au contraire, this lens his now a part of my permanent line up. great field of view and when used with the proper dome placement, quite a nice optic.

Hey Jean,

I've been looking for a good WA zoom to go with my S2/Aquatica. I was looking at buying the Nikon 12-24 and 10.5 to cover the entire range. I really hadn't considered the Sigma 10-20 until this post. Can you give me any more info on it? How does it compare in terms of distortion (both topside and underwater)? Which port extension/zoom gear would I need for this lens?

Thanks!
Rocha
Hi, the answer for the Aquatica port and more info on the lens are here:

You may want to do a search for sigma 10-20, there are quite a few more topics about it.

I don't know how good the lens performs on Nikon bodies. I use it with a Canon camera. The lens does have noticeable vignetting in the corners, especially wide open. Maybe the other way round you could call this a hot spot in the centre? But it is not as worth as several f numbers (aperture stops). Maybe the corners are darker on Nikon bodies because the crop factor is weaker (1.5 vs. 1.6, Nikon cameras capture a greater part of the edge of the lens’ image circle)? However, I have not experienced such problems with my 10-20mm.

Dark areas are only based on my strobe positioning, not the lens itself :-)

Julian, good samples, what F-stop you used? (there are no Exif information on the uploaded files)

Thanx. Both shot with f7.1 and 1/80s behind the Sealux 180U dome.
