Does anyone of you heard anything if S&S plan to make a Housing for the 5D?

I'm thinking about Switch next year and am not very keen to invest in new Ports so I would like to stay with Sea&Sea.

Has anyone inquired deeper into the Question if you can modify the DX30/60 to fit a 5D?

I have not heard anything about S&S and any plans for 5D.

Tell you what - mail me a 5D, and i'll try and put it into my DX-30/60 housing. Call it a research project. :-)

Dude, mail it? Why don't you two just meet up at the Dunkin Donuts by Jim Abernethy's place? :-)

Cheers

I put my 5D in my 30/60 housing with the old mount and it 'kind of' fit.

Will need to modify the mount, or build a new one in order for it to slide and lock in.

You loose all of the back controls since they are moved to the far left on the 5D.

With minor modification you can control both wheels. Shutter release needs no modification. I think if you don't mind limited functionality underwater it could work.

I have never modified anything on the S&S so wouldn't feel comfortable adding any buttons or knobs.

I've been playing with the 5D on land. Wonderful camera (especially since I had a D60 before).

My sigma 12-24 is now truly a wide angle. smile.gif

I won't buy a 5D before Spring (hoping the Price will have droped to 2500€ by then) At the Moment 2989€ is the cheapest I can find now when buying from a Canon Dealer.

I will then check with my local S&S Technician how much a full functional modification would cost (after Davids report this sounds possible).
Then based on Housing availability and price I will check rhen the Options: Modification, New S&S Housing or switch to another Manufacturer (Ike What are you 5D Plans?)

I have a friend who's successfully modified a S&S D60 housing to work with his 5D. He's somewhere in PNG right now testing it. I do know that he had to fabricate delrin button extensions and base tray and that the viewfinder didn't quite line up.

But he said it was functional.

One of the nice things about the 5D is the large screen, right, so why mod to use a small one? just spring for a new one when they are out, after all it's only money! biggrin.gif

@Scubatsu

Can you ask him when he returns to post a report. maybe with some Images of the Modificated Housing here on Wetpixel?

@James
That is great news!
When we assume the housing will be around 2000€ that will be 4500€ Investment without the second Body that will come later.
