Video: Swarm of red pelagic tuna crabs carpet the seafloor

During a recent deep sea expedition off the coast of Panama by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, chief scientist Jesus Pineda witnessed an incredible gathering of crabs. While exploring the Hannibal Bank Seamount the scientists came across thousands of red pelagic tuna crabs swarming across the seafloor.

Pineda had this to say about the experience: “I was mesmerized. I just couldn’t believe it. It was very unexpected.”
