Sony Japan has announced the release of the a7II mirrorless camera. Initially only available in Japan, the new camera features a 24.3 million pixels 35mm full size “Exmor” CMOS sensor and 5 axis image stabilization. Perhaps more critically, Sony claims the AF is 30% faster and that subject acquisition and motion tracking performance are better than that of the previous models.

PetaPixel has posted an article about a new patent made by the company that appears to show a whole new technique of recording color information at pixel level. “Active-Pixel Color Sampling” (APACS) uses a pixel level moving electronic color filter to sense RGB information, rather than the conventional interpolation process. Earlier in the week, Sony announced the release of their α7S mirrorless camera. This features a 12.2 megapixel full frame sensor with a claimed ISO range of 50 – 4096002 with “low noise”. In addition,it offers 4K video to an external recording device, with information being taken from the whole sensor width. Autofocus is the same as that of the α7R.
