Almost all of these are powered by some form of rechargeable batteries. Nikon are offering a free battery exchange for D500 owners that are have EN-EL15 batteries that were made prior to summer 2013. The camera dose not provide an accurate battery life indicator with the older batteries. The older versions are marked as “Li-ion01” whilst the newer are “Li-ion20”.
New guidelines for the transportation of lithium batteries by airlines have been issued. In a PSA video posted on YouTube, Canon USA have warned about inferior production techniques in some third party batteries. They aren’t against using 3rd party batteries per se; they are simply concerned that users are able to identify those that are safe to use and has been produced to the correct specifications.
