SEA&SEA Announces MDX-a6000 Housing

SEA&SEA is globally known for their underwater imaging innovations and are expanding the variety of underwater camera housings. The MDX-a6000 for the Sony Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera adds a fresh, new housing category to SEA&SEA’s innovative underwater housing collection. In a world of never-ending technological advancements, SEA&SEA continues to manufacture original designs that meet the desire for immediate accessibility and efficient technology.

MDX-a6000 Housing

The MDX-a6000 is SEA&SEA’s first housing for a mirrorless digital camera. This addition to the SEA&SEA MDX underwater housing line-up adds unique variety for underwater photographers. As always, SEA&SEA maintains high standards of advanced craftsmanship with this housing. Constructed from black galvanized corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy, the MDX-a6000 is a sturdy protective structure for the Sony Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera. Two zinc diodes are attached to the front and rear of the case for added protection against electrolysis damage. The MDX-a6000 showcases SEA&SEA’s attention to detail, as all functions of the camera can be used underwater. A new format for ML mount ports was created to accommodate the following lenses: Sony 16mm f/2.8 Wide Angle lens, Sony 30mm f/3.5 Macro lens, Sony 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 Zoom lens and Sony 10-18mm Wide Angle Zoom lens. The camera’s LCD monitor can be tilted up to 10° for enhanced viewing through the large LCD window. SEA&SEA’s optional leak sensor can be installed into this housing, which provides an alert upon any water entry. A depth rating of 100m/330ft provides versatility to any underwater photographer.

Sony Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera

The Sony Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera is the next generation of DSLR. The a6000 is a compact, mirrorless camera whose power and performance may exceed a plethora of the DSLRs on the market, but is half the size and weight of the conventional DSLR. A key feature is the E-Mount System with a wide range of lens options. This unique, high-powered camera is ideal for any underwater photographer who wants the image quality of a DSLR without carrying the extra weight.

This camera has a 20% higher sensitivity due to the newly developed Exmor CMOS sensor and BIONZ X processor. The sensor and processor work together to produce high quality images with stunning detail in low light situations. The Sony Alpha a6000 features a pop-up flash and a standard hot shoe to add any additional flash accessories. With Wi-Fi connectivity and various compatible apps, this camera is ideal for the wanderlust underwater photographer.

Accessories

SEA&SEA has created new housing accessories that are unique to the MDX-a6000 underwater housing. As previously stated, the new ML port series has been designed for this particular housing type. Two ML mount ports will be available for the MDX-a6000. SEA&SEA created the ML Flat Port 33 and the ML Dome Port specifically for mirrorless interchangeable camera housings. The ML Dome Port is constructed of corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy, while the dome is carefully shaped with acrylic. The ML Flat Port 33 is also constructed of corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy and tempered glass.

Equipped with two fiber-optic sockets, the MDX-a6000 is compatible with SEA&SEA’s newly fine-tuned and restructured Fiber Optic Cable II for easy ultimate lighting. Made of 613 individual fiber cores, the Fiber Optic Cable II reduces the chance of light attenuation, resulting in minimal transmission loss.

Renowned for sophisticated underwater lighting, SEA&SEA strobes are the accessory for proper underwater imaging execution. Through fiber-optic connection, the MDX-a6000 is compatible with the YS-D1, YS-01, and YS-02 strobes.

Mounting strobes to the MDX-a6000 is convenient with SEA&SEA’s Sea Arm 8. Designed using the latest structural analysis software, the Sea Arm 8 was systematically machined from a solid block of aluminum, providing robust lightweight durability and security. Ball clamps allow for easy manipulation and maneuverability, while keeping SEA&SEA’s standard of structural reliability.

SEA&SEA’s rock solid structural design for the MDX-a6000 (SS-06172) underwater housing opens the door to a whole new revolutionary class of underwater imaging.

Arriving September 29, 2014 with a MAP of $1,695.95.
