Sea and Sea YS110 Strobe

Sea and Sea has announced the release of their new strobe, with new features designed to address some of the drawbacks noted by Wetpixel users for previous models. The strobe is more powerful and features a wider light pattern, due to the use of 3 flash tubes.

Features of the YS-110 Strobe:

Automatic pre-flash function for digital cameras
DS-TTL for use with fiber optic cable
Guide number 12-step control for precision manual manipulation of light output
Three Xenon flash tubes for a broad 105 X 105 degree angle of coverage
Guide number 22 (ISO 100/m) for high power performance
Recycle time of approximately 1 second with Ni-Mh batteries
Bright LED target light in center of the strobe face
Connects via fiber optic cable or 5 pin synch cord
200 Ft (60 m) depth rating

With an LED spotting light, batteries shouldn't be a big problem as they draw a much smaller amount of juice. 4xAA means that it'll be about the same size and weight of the other med S&S strobes and not as wieldy as a YS120. Not sure about the TTL... Where's the DEMA report James?? Jack
Posted by JackConnick on 2005-10-12 14:21:14 I'm curious about the claim that this strobe is "more powerful and features a wider light pattern". It does have a wider pattern but is rated at the same 22 meters guide number.
Posted by Herb Ko on 2005-10-12 14:03:24 I am disappointed, still has the draw back of having to use a fibre optic cable for TTL unlike the Ikelite DS-125 that has iTTL within the 5 pin digital Sync cord and is a more powerful and superior strobe. (Shame about the plastic housings) I’ve been waiting on this flash for nearly a year as I love Sea and Sea housings and miss my YS 120 TTL strobe, but Ikelite are so far ahead with iTTL. Cannon and Nikon !!! Fibre optic cables are so fragile when diving PS. I spoke to Sea and Sea UK yesterday, was told that it does run on 4X AA's, would guess that means lots of battery changes between dives especially if the spotting light is used; but that was all they could tell me!!!
