Nauticam announces the Epic LT housing

Nauticam has released details of their Epic LT housing for RED EPIC and RED SCARLET cameras with Mysterium-X and Dragon sensors. it is “carry on” legal and can be set up in a few minutes. Battery and media changes can take place without removing the camera and it is compatible with all Nauticam ports. Lens compatibility is for EF mount lenses and the lens axis is close to the bottom of the housing, allowing for great perspective when shooting macro.

Housing for RED EPIC and RED SCARLET Cameras with Mysterium-X and Dragon Sensors

Unveiled at the 2015 NAB Show in Las Vegas, this exciting new housing is the most travel friendly system available today for Epic and Scarlet cameras.

Built around Nauticam’s N120 DSLR Port Mount, and compatible with dozens of Canon EF Lenses, Epic LT is capable of being packed in a carry on backpack that can fit “under the seat in front of you.” The housing weighs in at under 7kg / 15lbs. This results in a weight & form factor you can truly take anywhere.

On location, the usability of this system is unmatched. Set up and tear down in minutes, Battery and media changes while the camera is mounted in the housing, and lens swaps in seconds. The small size and light weight dramatically decrease resistance in water, especially when free diving.

Quick Setup and Tear Down

The entire Epic LT system can be assembled in a matter of minutes! A top mounted Arri Dovetail Plate IS used to mount the camera in the housing, and an intermediate “block” interfaces between the SWITCHBLADE Module and the housing. controls need to be preset when installing the camera, and the camera can even be installed with Red’s quick release plate mounted on the bottom.

Setup is simple, putting our shooters in the water capturing 6k content in as little time as is possible.

Tool Free Lens & Port Changes

Lens changes are also incredibly simple, requiring no tools, and able to be accomplished in a matter of minutes (or a minute?). The patented Nauticam Port Locking Lever allows ports to be attached and removed without twisting, and lock securely in place on the housing. Even extension rings lock, meaning a port is always firmly in place, with no twisting or play. An external lens release button allows EF lenses to be removed while the camera is installed in the housing.

Epic LT shares the same expansive port system as all other Nauticam Digital SLR Housings. This lineup is unmatched in our industry, with four optically coated glass dome ports ranging in size from 140mm - 250mm in diameter, four acrylic dome sizes, numerous flat ports, and extension rings to precisely match the placement of these ports with the lens used. Nauticam offers an unmatched port selection, and one that can be shared with amongst other camera systems on the same production.

Cinema Styled Zoom & Focus Knobs

Oversized, Rubberized Zoom and Focus Knobs placed at the left handle provide precise lens control.

A lever disengages the lens gearing, allowing a camera to be installed or a lens mounted without any interference.

Focus and Zoom gears are available for most popular Canon EF Mount lenses made by Canon, Tokina, and Sigma, and custom gearing is available upon request. Power Solutions

The Epic LT housing was designed to integrate seamlessly with the REDVOLT XL Module and REDVOLT XL Battery pack from RED. When using this system battery changes are possible without removing the camera from the housing.

Other popular battery configurations supported are Anton Bauer Dionic HC with Gold Mount Plate, and select V-Mount Batteries with a V-Mount Adaptor Plate. The PAGLink PL96 has proven to be popular with the Nauticam user base, and is fully compatible.

Unparalleled Camera Access

The housing is opened with a securely locking rotary latch, and sealed with a large diameter o-ring.

Batteries, Media, and the lcd monitor connection are all easily accessed while the camera is mounted in the housing.

Carry on Legal

One of the most remarkable features of this system is its pack-a-bility. An entire ready to dive system - camera, housing, lens, ports, and batteries can be packed into a wheeled carry on bag like ThinkTank Airport International, and carried onto an airplane. Competing systems require two checked Pelican cases to get a dive able rig on location

Perspective

The lens axis is placed as low on the housing as is possible, providing a low angle perspective that is key when shooting macro subjects on the seafloor.

Vacuum System

The Nauticam Check & Leak Detection System provides complete peace of mind that the housing is sealed, and camera safe before, during, and after the dive. The system constantly monitors the vacuum status, even while in the water, and uses sophisticated temperature compensation to avoid fals alarms. The reassuring Green LED provides peace of mind, and easy to understand error codes alert in the event of a problem.
