Manta ray tagging program launches in Indonesia

A comprehensive manta tagging program has begun this month in Indonesia to gather information on manta ranges and habits to support their recent protection in these waters. 30 tags are set to be attached to reef and oceanic manta rays in locations throughout Indonesia.

The locations where tagging in scheduled to occur include Raja Ampat, Nusa Penida, Komodo, Berau and Lamakera. Manta ray tagging has begun in Nusa Penida and the tagging in Raja Ampat will begin in October.

The tagging program is being run by the Ministry of marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF) and Conservation International (CI) with financial support from teh SEA Aquarium in Singapore.
