Karen Glaser’s Springs and Swamps Series


Photographer Karen Glaser has been photographing the springs and swamps of Florida for decades. Through artist-in-residencies award programs through organizations like Big Cypress National Preserve and the Everglades National Park, Glaser has gained access to endangered fresh water springs and swamps in southern Florida.

Photographing the Florida freshwaters has become an emotional and spiritual process for me, as well as an artistic one. I am acutely aware of all the elements: earth, water, fire and air, and how they intermix. I am driven to translate this visceral experience into my photographs. My work evolves like a river with many tributaries.
