Interview with freediver in Beyonce’s new underwater video

The music video for Beyonce’s latest song with Naughty Boy, Runnin’ (Lose it All), was shot entirely underwater. The video features champion freedivers Alice Modolo and Guillaume Néry as they “run” across the seafloor and under the surface. Here is an interview with Mondolo on how the video was shot.

The music video, directed by Charlie Robbins, is entirely underwater and features the two freedivers. In the interview, Mondolo discusses the challenges of freediving in street clothes without weights, masks and nose clips, as well as what happened to her sinuses after four days of shooting in an inverted position in the ocean.

Here Mondolo discusses the length of each dive:

It’s difficult to know. Maybe two or three minutes. The difficult part was not about the time holding our breath, [it was that] we couldn’t have lots of air in our lungs because we couldn’t put weights on us. Without weights, your body just comes up to the surface, you can’t stay underwater. So I had to dive with nearly no air, because with full lungs, we could not stay at the bottom.
