Volunteers needed for coverage of Avalon Underwater Cleanup

Press Release

It’s here again, the 28th Annual Avalon Underwater Cleanup. On February 21, 2009 nearly 600 divers will suit up and hit the waters off Catalina Island to help clean up the trash left behind by summer guests. Participants will gather trash from the beaches and underwater terrain and some may even be awarded prizes for the unique “treasures” they find. However, the idea behind the event is to help keep California’s Island destination clean for many years to come and to raise money for the continued operation of the Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

H2O Photo Pros Underwater Photo & Video has volunteered to produce a multimedia piece as well as still photographs that will be used to promote and advertise the clean up event for years to come. The multimedia piece will be used on the Catalina Conservancy’s website, as well as the websites of H2O Photo Pros, Wetpixel, DivePhotoGuide, Scuba Board, SSA-OC, SSA, Catalina Scuba Luv, DeeperBlue.net and more, plus local media coverage.  We have a handful of volunteers but are still in need of the following:

Underwater Video* shooter
Topside Video* shooter
Still Underwater* photographer
Still Topside* photographers

We have arranged transportation for H2O Photo Pros’ volunteers to and from Catalina Island courtesy of the Pacific Star Dive Boat out of Redondo Beach.  Volunteers will have tanks and weights available for their personal use before and after the event, courtesy of Catalina Scuba Luv.
